CommunityMark award for East Midlands Airport
Thursday, September 15, 2011
East Midlands Airport staff are celebrating this month as the airport is awarded the prestigious BITC CommunityMark for excellence in community investment.
The CommunityMark is the UK’s only national standard which recognises an organisation’s positive contribution to its local community and East Midlands Airport joins an elite group of only 34 UK companies to be awarded the mark. It’s also the only UK airport to currently hold the accreditation – testament to their commitment to all things East Midlands.
The award comes as the airport invested £197,352 in local community initiatives last year alone, making a total of £570,000 invested over the past three years. Community projects funded by the airport include the Aerozone, the Airport Trail and support to a variety of local projects through the Community Fund.
When asked about the award, Neil Robinson, Director of Sustainability, East Midlands Airport said:
“We are honoured to have been awarded the CommunityMark and to be the only airport in the UK to have received this award is very exciting.”
“The airport supports our local communities in many ways, from the Community Fund to inspiring young people through education. We pride ourselves on being a sustainable business and work with local schools and communities to ensure that we have strong and enduring relationships.”
