Fake Viagra seized at Birmingham Airport

The UK Borders agency has revealed that it seized over 116,000 tablets of fake Viagra at Birmingham Airport last year.
Birmingham Meet and Greet parking experts Stress Free Parking have learned this week that the UK Borders agency seized a bumper haul of fake Viagra tablets last year, including more than 116,000 at Birmingham Airport.
In addition to the huge number found at Birmingham Airport, there were a further six million seized at Heathrow Airport, along with 2.1 million at postal depots in Coventry and 250,000 at depots in London.
Altogether, Border official intercepted 8.5 million tablets, all ordered online by British customers, and often at huge expense.
Potentially harmful to health
As well as being illegal, many of the tablets could actually be very harmful to health, officials warn. Most fake Viagra tablets are produced in the Far East and can contain a number of dangerous substances, as well as being untested and unlicensed.
Needless to say, they are also unlikely to have the desired effect.
Brodie Clark, head of Border Force for the UK Border Agency (UKBA), said: “This massive haul makes it clear just how seriously we take the smuggling of fake and unlicensed medicines.”
“Our officers have a vital role to play in protecting British consumers and businesses from the trade in black market medicines and other goods.”
“Smugglers are only out to make a profit - these goods are often dangerous and the proceeds can be used to fuel serious organised crime.”
