Heathrow hosts fourth annual Apprenticeship Fair

Earlier this week, the UK’s busiest airport played host to over 500 young people keen to secure an apprenticeship in the aviation industry.
Whether you’re a young person looking to become a Heathrow Airport parking professional or a member of airline ground crew, Heathrow Airport’s annual apprenticeship fair is an excellent place to start.
Earning and learning
Every year the airport provides hundreds of young people with the opportunity to learn more about jobs in travel and aviation. They can also get advice about how to use the government’s apprenticeship scheme to learn on the job while getting a wage at the same time.
Employers in attendance at this year’s event included Balfour Beatty, Laing O’Rourke, Carillion and British Airways. Heathrow Airport's own engineering department and Retail Academy were also present, offering advice and support to students keen to follow careers in their specialist areas.
Professional career opportunities
Dionne Williamson, a teacher attending from West Thames College in Feltham said: “I want to push the opportunities on offer to students at the airport. I don’t think they are all aware there are many professional career opportunities here. We have been coming for years to the Heathrow Apprenticeship Fair and it’s great to see there has been a surge in girls signing up to mechanical, engineering and construction training.”
Pardip Samby and Manjot Bajwa, 17, students from Cranford College in Hounslow, commented meanwhile: “With the tuition fees hike we are keen to see the range of options after leaving school. It has been great to see there are some really good careers and training opportunities at the airport.”
