Heathrow Airport has been voted the best airport in the world for shopping in the Skytrax World Airport Awards according to sources at our Heathrow Meet and Greet parking base.
The title was awarded to Heathrow for the second year running in what has become the aviation industry’s most prestigious awards thanks to the fact that it is voted for by passengers themselves.
As well as scooping the award for best shopping, our Meet and Greet Heathrow experts have also reported that Heathrow Airport came runner-up in the category of Best Airport in Western Europe - second only to Amsterdam Schiphol.
The airport was also voted second best for dining worldwide and the airport’s Sofitel at Terminal 5 was voted the best airport hotel in Europe.
The World Airport Awards are voted for by more than 10 million passengers from hundreds of different countries and include more than 240 airports in Europe and beyond. They’re thought to be an excellent measure of an airport’s quality and service based on the fact that they’re voted for by passengers rather than the industry itself.
When asked about the accolades in a recent interview for Heathrow Airport’s website, John Holland-Kaye, Heathrow's Commercial Director, said:
“The Skytrax World Airport Awards are very highly regarded as huge numbers of people take part. We are absolutely delighted to have been recognised as the best airport for shopping for a second year running, and to be closing in on Amsterdam as the best airport in Western Europe.”
“This award is a credit to the many people working hard to make every passenger's journey better than the last one, and to providing the excellent shopping experience we know our passengers expect.”
